Pulse polio – Kick started from 11/03/18
As the second phase of the pulse polio immunization campaign, the TN government kick-started on 11th March 2018, Sunday.
Is pulse polio is necessary? Yes, because the Polio virus destroys motor neurons in the central nervous system. Which causes paralysis or even to death. Pulse polio is important, which is the step to eliminate polio in India.
According to the report, over 17 crore children, below five years, across the country, are to be given polio drops as part of the Government of India’s 2018 polio drive.
All over India, close to 65 lakh children below five years are receiving the oral form of the vaccine on the first day. The Collector said that sufficient vaccine is stocked in cold storage units.
In Chennai, over 1,600 camps have been set up across the city to administer polio drops to children aged five. In Telangana, a total of 36,55,204 children would be given polio drops at 22,768 booths.
A total of 1,652 transit booths known as special camps will function at bus stands, railways stations, toll plazas, and airports. A total of 1,000 mobile teams have been formed, and 2 lakh volunteers from the health, ICDS, education and other government departments are participating in the campaign.
The camps/ Booths are opened from 7 a.m to 5 p.m. and parents could administer the drops for children at any time between 7 a.m.and 5 p.m.
