Kurangani fire accident
Kurangani, a well-known trekking spot in the Theni district. Despite the seasons, people used to do trekking at all times. Suddenly, on 11th March 2018 people in and around the Kurangni Hills has found that Forest has been lightening and smoky due to fire.
The fire broke out when a group of 25 women and three children was returning from a trek. This was organized by the Chennai Trekking Club to mark Women’s Day.
On their way back on Sunday, the group was trapped on a hillock, surrounded by fire. Apart from them, other people inside the forest were also struck in the Forest.
Around 15 ambulances are on standby, and an adequate number of doctors and medical workers have been mobilized at Korangani and Bodinayakkanur to receive the victims being brought down from the hills. The Indian Airforce Helicopters are searching for more stranded trekkers. Also, police troops of Kerala have reached the spot to rescue the Children.
15 members were rescued by the local people in the late evening, where about 5 were severely injured. About 9 trekkers have died of burns.
The rescuing process was undertaken and employee of local tea estate was also involved in rescuing people from fire.
Recently, Air Force choppers diverted for dousing and went to some other area reported the forest fire. Let us pray for the good souls to rest in peace.

Kurangani forest fire and its victims is heart rending. Those with burn injuries should heal fast. I wish them all the best for recovery and rehabilitation. To those bereived families my deepest sympathy.
